[Headcanon] Chief Cultivator Information
Oct. 13th, 2023 08:40 pmNie Huaisang's adept performance of the coffin-sealing ceremony after the events of the Guanyin Temple marked the beginning of new beginning for the sect leader. After he'd avenged his brother and vanquished their enemy, he'd hit the ground running at an intellectual pace none of his peers in cultivation society had never believed him capable of. Within a year, the Qinghe Nie Sect had regained its status as a great sect, causing a stir as the once-useless Headshaker continued to reveal more and more of himself, building up momentum and self-confidence as his sect finally prospered under his leadership. He also proved himself further by stepping in to help ease tensions and resolve conflicts between other sects in the absence of a chief cultivator as the seat remained vacant. By the time, the cultivation world was ready to approach the subject of who would replace Jin Guangyao, Nie Huaisang had made a new name for himself as a competent leader, diplomat, and political strategist. It was generally agreed upon that he was a sensible person for the job, especially given he'd already taken on some of the duties of the job without much issue.
As chief cultivator, Nie Huaisang seems rather hands off. In general, his goal in politics is to restore and maintain the balance of power between the great sects so relations between them remain peaceful. He performs his duties as chief cultivator to the letter as described in the novel, only stepping in to as a third party moderator in disputes between different cultivation clans or sects or to act as a tie breaker if cultivation society becomes deadlocked on how to proceed. In general, he stays in his own lane and encourages the other sects to mind their own business as well. That said, he's still shady and mistrustful so he monitors the other sects, particularly the great sects whose leaders don't ally with him, through an clandestine network of spies and confidential informants. Mainly, he just keeps feelers out for sources of conflict that could potentially escalate into war or negatively impact the peace and power balabce he's cultivating. If someone gets out of line, they'll find their efforts mysteriously undermined or sabotaged without any clear, decisive evidence linking back to him as the culprit.
